Vegas Trip Day 1, February 2010

Friday, February 19, 2010

We each had a double Captain Morgan and diet Coke in the airport bar, and I was feeling mighty fine as we waited for the plane to arrive.

In the bar, we spotted a Canadian tuxedo with embroidered flowers on the jacket… on a guy. This would be the first of many Canadian tuxedo sightings on the trip. I’m not sure if this was a way of people showing they were in the Olympic spirit, or what.

Thanks to a very generous person, we were able to upgrade to first class where we enjoyed more beverages and a meal on the plane. Our flight attendant Sandy kept our drinks refreshed and even offered to pour Baileys on our cheesecake, which we gladly accepted.

As the plane descended into Vegas, I almost serenaded the rest of the plane with Vegas songs I had been listening to on my iPhone.

After a short wait for our luggage and a cab, we checked into room 3097P at Paris.

The room was at the end of the hall and had a great view of the Bellagio fountains.

We celebrated our arrival (again) with drinks in the Diamond Lounge. We chatted with Michael for a while and said hi to Freddie the bartender. Our strategy was to take it easy and only get vodka/sodas, but they kept bringing more as we finished half of each glass. Oops.

Fancy Light

In my first run at video poker at Planet Hollywood, I lost a few dollars but felt no pain (financial or otherwise). Hunter joined us for a while and we conversed with him briefly, planning to meet the next night for dinner.

We had a happy reunion with Earl of Sandwich before going to bed.

I love your trip reports. They put my own to shame. Looking forward to the next… And the next… And the next. Weren’t you guys there an entire week this time?

    Keep ’em coming!

  2. Michele Says:

Aw, thanks! Yeah, this is good motivation to put the next 6 days up there.

Ditto to the previous poster. I can’t wait to hear more. It is one thing hearing the podcast, but reading the little details makes me visualize the trip itself, plus its nice hearing it from a girl’s point of view and none of Tim’s snide comments. đŸ˜‰

What do you do with your fur babies when you go to Vegas? I think this year we are going to have to board ours, they are too much of a handful and to ask someone to watch them for more than 3 days is crazy.

  4. Michele Says:

We generally board our dogs with our vet. We’ve considered hiring a housesitter for longer trips, though.

  5. Thomas Says:

    Wow – great start.
